"Ghost hunt at Smithfield Cemetery

The hunt was on the night of the full moon. The weather was humid and hot with temperatures in the upper 80’s. We had clear skies with a very light breeze, not enough to kick up anything, though.
The 4 hunters for this trip were Sarah, Andrea and William, and myself. Andrea and Sarah both get headaches when they are around energies, so we used them as “feelers” for where we should take pictures. The game plan was for us to all stay together, but just like in any good horror movie, we wound up splitting up: the guys in a pair and the girls in a pair. The girls stayed on the road surface and William and I strode off into the cemetery proper to look at the older tombstones and the historical markers. Of course, we were very careful not to step on any graves.
I had been there during the day to get the lay of the land and wound up talking to a caretaker mowing the grass. Very friendly fellow and he didn’t believe anybody would mind us coming out at night and taking pictures. This cemetery is in the middle of the town. There are schools, a Masonic Lodge, and businesses all around it. This place is far from being out in the boonies. The main gate is always open. There is actually a haunted restaurant very close by, but that’s another story hopefully!
Back to the hunt….
Andrea and Sarah both got headaches in one particular area of the cemetery. Andrea’s was behind her right eyeball and Sarah’s was in her left temple. These headaches came about when we got into the northwest corner of the land. Andrea became nauseated after the event, but Sarah was nauseated while we were in that area. William and I ventured into that area further since neither of us seems to be affected by the presence of spirits. We took quite a few pictures in this area while Andrea and Sarah took pictures from the road. Many of the older tombstones are in this area as are several of the historical markers. The picture with the orb moving very rapidly in a zigzag pattern was taken in this area.
Sarah said she had felt like we were being followed as soon as we walked into the cemetery, but this feeling soon went away. Interestingly enough, the picture of William and I coming out of the tombstones is at the entrance of the cemetery. There is what we believe to be an orb in the upper left hand corner of that picture…and I swear that is not a look of panic on my face…
We never ventured into the northeast corner of the cemetery. The ladies had bad vibes from this area for some reason. I never went into that area during my daytime foray, either. Maybe I felt some subliminal under currents there? Who knows? I could tell from their body language they were very hesitant to venture into that area. William and I, again, felt nothing. We decided to call it a night since we had used almost 6 rolls of film. Sarah and I would wind up going back during the day (coincidentally, the night of the new moon) to get some more shots of the cemetery and finally go into that northeast corner of the place. Her feelings weren’t as strong that particular visit, but the sensation she had was of somebody pressing a finger into her forehead (third eye? Pineal gland? Hmmmm….).
The only downfall to this whole adventure was William’s truck getting broken into and his stereo stolen. Andrea and William had to park right at the entrance to the cemetery gates, unfortunately. The barbecue joint that is less than 50 yards away had a live band there that night. After we shot our film, we wound up going there and having a few beers and margaritas while I jotted down event notes and questioned our group about how they felt. I had run back out to my truck to get my note pad and decided to wander back to the cemetery by myself to offer some thanks for the ghosts if they decided to show up on our film. I walked right by William’s truck and it was fine. It got broken into between the time I went back inside the barbecue joint and the time Andrea and William left…maybe a half hour, tops. Just goes to show: be careful where you leave a vehicle when going on any hunt anywhere.
Overall, we were dancing jigs when we got the film back. 5 decent pictures of orbs from 6 rolls of film wasn’t bad odds at all. I was surprised anything showed up, personally. I was a bit embarrassed about my finger being in most of the pictures though. *Blush* I’ve taken a jillion pictures in my life, quite a few at nighttime, and never saw anything odd in the pictures except us. An experienced ghost hunter friend of mine said we were extremely lucky we got the shots in the first place since we used disposable cameras.
This first attempt at getting images on film has definitely gotten our little group of booger hunters hooked!"
