Hershey Bar and Budweiser Chili
Chocolate
adds a nice touch to any dish with chili in it. Ask the Aztecs. Oh
wait...
Most chili with chocolate recipes are on yuppie-ish foodie blogs and are 30
ingredients long. Since working people don't have trust funds and masters
degrees in Art History that they don't even use, they probably also don't have
time to gather Ecuadorian brown sugar lumps and fresh Mexican oregano to make a
pot of chili. This site is, after all, White Trash Cookin':
Brown in a large pot over medium to medium high heat:
1 diced onion
1 cheap pot roast, cubed into small chunks, salted and peppered*
1 diced bell pepper
2 hot chili peppers, finely minced (more or less to taste. taking the seeds out
will eliminate some of the heat.)
The last minute of browning, add:
2 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp cumin OR 1/2 packet of taco seasoning (be careful not to over-salt if
using the taco seasoning) OR 2 tsp chili powder
a cinnamon stick OR 1/2 tsp cinnmon (optional)
Finally, add the following and simmer for at least an hour, until thick and
delicious:
1 can of the domestic beer of your choice
1 can (12 or 16 oz.) of tomato sauce
1 empty tomato sauce can full of water
1 regular sized Hershey's bar - OR 1/2 c of semi sweet chocolate chips (don't
over-do it. you dont want chocolate flavored chili here. it should just
compliment the flavor of the chili.)
1 large can kidey beans or black beans, drained and rinsed (optional)
*If you have ground venison, it always makes a lovely chili as well
Great with cornbread and cheddar cheese!
