This recipe was originally called "worm burgers", but I just like the sound of "Maggot Burgers" better...
Maggot Burgers
1 lb ground beef
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp grated garlic
1/2 tsp ground ginger
2 scallions, chopped
(1 tsp Sambal paste or hot pepper sauce, optional)
1 egg
1 1/2 c. mung bean sprouts, rinsed (and thoroughly drained if you're using
canned)
Combine first six ingredients in large bowl. Add salt if you'd like, but be
aware that soy sauce is very salty. Carefully fold in sprouts and form
into hamburger patties. Fry or grill as you would traditional hamburgers, and
serve on buns with the "green" ketchup they make for kids nowadays. A layer of
melted swiss cheese might look cool as well.
