Truck Stop Brown Gravy
If you've ever worked in a truck stop kitchen, like I did when I was 15 - you
know they pour this stuff on damn near everything except cream pie. Today most
places like diners and truck stops make gravy from a scary brown powder, but
this recipe was taken from a handwritten note card circa 1960.
Ingredients
* 3 tablespoons butter
* 3 tablespoons flour
* 1 (19 ounce) can beef broth
* 3/4 cup water
* 1 (10 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
Directions
1.
Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat.
2.
Blend in flour. Cook for one or two minutes.
3.
Add broth and water gradually.
4.
Cook and stir until thickened, about 5 to 10 minutes.
5.
Add mushroom soup, stirring constantly, until fully blended.
6.
Lower heat and cook for another 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
