Spam Musubi
This is a Hawaiian classic. No, really!
  1. Soak uncooked rice for 4 hours; drain and rinse.
  2. In a saucepan bring 2 cups water to a boil. Add rice and stir. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in rice vinegar, and set aside to cool.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar until sugar is completely dissolved. Slice luncheon meat lengthwise into 10 slices, or to desired thickness, and marinate in sauce for 5 minutes.
  4. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium high heat. Cook slices for 2 minutes per side, or until lightly browned. Cut nori sheets in half and lay on a flat work surface. Place a rice press in the center of the sheet, and press rice tightly inside. Top with a slice of luncheon meat, and remove press. Wrap nori around rice mold, sealing edges with a small amount of water. (Rice may also be formed by hand in the shape of the meat slices, 1 inch thick.) Musubi may be served warm or chilled.

Ivan's Pickle Rolls (White Trash Sushi)

from this site

Package Egg Rolls (1Lb)
Package Sliced Ham Lunch Meat
Package Slice Swiss Cheese
Dill Pickle Spears
Oil (to deep fry)

Place on Egg Roll: Ham, Cheese and Pickle.

Fold egg roll according to instruction on package.

Place in hot oil, and deep fry until roll is brown to dark brown.

The amount of ingredients all depends on how many “pickles” you actually want to make. I usually buy the package of Egg rolls and than buy enough ingredients to complete the egg roll package. I make these as I want them also, it is easy to make them one/two at a time just for a single person serving.

Jon's Sushi Rolls

from this site

Spread Marshmallow Fluff on a flour tortilla. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and cooked, crumbled bacon. Roll up and slice into pinwheels.

Bacon Cheeseburger Rolls (from this site)

* 6 sheets nori
* 3 cups sumeshi (see below)
* 1 1.5 pound flank steak
* 1 clove garlic, halved
* salt, pepper, garlic powder
* 1 tbsp butter
* 1 medium potato (or an order of fries from McDonalds or Carl's Jr)
* olive oil
* 1 onion
* 6 “single” slices of American or cheddar cheese
* 12 strips of bacon
* BBQ sauce

Cooking Directions

1. Cook sumeshi.
2. Trim any excess fat from the flank steak.
3. Pat the surface of the flank steak dry with a paper towel, then rub with the cut side of the clove of garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
4. Melt the butter in a skillet that is big enough to hold the flank steak. Put the flank steak in the skillet, and cook over medium-high heat until it is browned on the outside but still pink in the center.
5. Remove the flank steak from the skillet and cover loosely with foil.
6. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
7. Wash and peel the potato, and slice into 1/4″ x 1/4″ strips.
8. Place the strips on a baking sheet and brush with olive oil.
9. Sprinkle with salt and garlic powder.
10. Bake for 25 minutes, rearranging the french fries halfway through so they don’t burn.
11. Or if you prefer, you can always buy some fries from your favorite fast food restaurant. Works just as well. :)
12. Fry you bacon as crispy as you like it.
13. Slice the onion into rings, cut these in half.
14. Slice the cheese into thin slices, about 1.5 inches wide.
15. Roll the sushi, using a couple of strips of flank steak, onion, french fries, bacon, and cheese as your fillings.
16. Serve with BBQ sauce. Enjoy!

Sumeshi (Sushi Rice)

  1. Cook the rice, using equal parts rice and water. I use a rice cooker, but you can also cook it on the stove if you don’t have a rice cooker.
  2. Put the rice vinegar and sugar in a small pot over medium heat.
  3. Stir until the sugar has melted into the rice vinegar.
  4. Once the rice is finished cooking, take the rice out of the pot and put it in the hangiri, or a large bowl if you don’t have a hangiri.
  5. Cool the rice and rice vinegar mix, then slowly pour the rice vinegar mix over the rice, using a cutting motion to mix it into the rice with the rice paddle (wooden spoon)
  6. Make sushi!

Rice Krispie Treat Sushi

from this blog (how smart am I snagging an image from someone who is attending Harvard Law?)

Fruit Roll Ups in various colors
Gummy Worms

Look at the photo... you'll figure it out. You might want to butter your hands when molding the rice krispies, and maybe zap them in the microwave for 5 seconds to soften them up before shaping.

Twinkie Sushi (from Hostess website)

 * 3 Hostess Twinkies
* Assorted dried fruits
* Assorted fruity candies
* 2 green fruit roll ups
* Dried mangoes (looks like pickled ginger)

Slice Hostess Twinkies into pieces about an inch tall. Slice fruit roll ups in strips to the long enough and wide enough to wrap around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Wrap the fruit roll ups around the Hostess Twinkie pieces. Place dried fruits and candies into the cream filling. Place Twinkie rolls on a plate or in a bento box. Garnish with strips of dried mango to resemble pickled ginger if you wish! Serve with chopsticks if you wish.
